Tor Vergata Innovation Day 2026: Research, Innovation and New Connections

On 7 October 2026, the University of Rome Tor Vergata hosted the Tor Vergata Innovation Day, bringing together researchers, companies, students, institutions and other stakeholders to highlight the University’s contribution to research, technological innovation and the development of new opportunities for collaboration.

At the heart of the event was the Discovery Hall, where visitors had the opportunity to explore the results of research carried out at the University through prototypes, Proofs of Concept and scientific posters. The exhibition covered six broad areas of innovation: Education and Internationalisation; Digital Infrastructure and Connectivity; Precision Medicine and Biopharma; Digital Health and Prevention; Energy, Environment and Circularity; and the Frontiers of Space and Matter.

A particularly significant component of the programme was represented by the B2B meetings, which created a direct interface between the University’s research community and the productive sector. Through the Innovation Matching platform, companies and researchers were able to identify common interests, discuss technologies and research projects, and explore potential collaborations. These encounters highlighted the importance of creating structured pathways through which academic knowledge and technological expertise can generate new partnerships and applications.

The Innovation Day also gave prominence to the University’s students and to the role of the next generation in shaping innovation. The first edition of the “Blue Shift” Hackathon, dedicated to defensive cybersecurity, challenged Tor Vergata students to work in teams, identify threats and develop strategies to protect a system. The initiative was organised by the CNIT – Consorzio Nazionale Interuniversitario per le Telecomunicazioni, in collaboration with the University.

Another highlight was the final of the 12th edition of Start Cup Lazio, which showcased entrepreneurial ideas emerging from university research. The initiative demonstrated how scientific knowledge and research results can become the foundation for deep-tech startups, innovation and new opportunities for economic and societal development.

The programme was further enriched by discussions with institutions and representatives of the local territory, reflecting the University’s broader role within an increasingly open and interconnected innovation ecosystem.

Through the Tor Vergata Innovation Day, the University brought together research, education, entrepreneurship and industry in a shared environment, reaffirming its commitment to transforming knowledge into innovation and strengthening the connections between academia and society.
