Lecture Announcement: “From Shape-Memory Materials to 4D Printing: Modeling and Applications”

The School of Engineering at the University of Rome Tor Vergata is pleased to announce the upcoming lecture “From Shape-Memory Materials to 4D Printing: Modeling and Applications,” delivered by Prof. Giulia Scalet of the University of Pavia. The event will take place on Monday, November 24th, in Aula Pitagora, from 10:00 to 12:30.

This lecture will offer an in-depth exploration of advanced concepts at the forefront of contemporary materials research. Prof. Scalet will discuss the progression from shape-memory materials to the emerging field of 4D printing, presenting recent advances in the formulation of hyperelastic constitutive models developed within a rigorous thermodynamic framework. Particular attention will be devoted to the accurate characterization of smart material behavior and to the computational methodologies that enable such descriptions. Furthermore, the lecture will illustrate how these modeling strategies can be exploited for the design of three-dimensional and four-dimensional structures with programmable and precisely controlled mechano-structural properties, expanding the range of possibilities for engineering innovation.

Prof. Giulia Scalet serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture at the University of Pavia. Her research expertise spans computational mechanics, smart materials, and 4D printing technologies. She is the recipient of an ERC Starting Grant (2021) for the CoDe4Bio project (Grant ID 101039467) and has been recognized with several national scientific awards for her contributions to the field.

This event represents a valuable opportunity for scholars, researchers, and students interested in advanced materials and computational modeling to engage with cutting-edge developments in a rapidly evolving discipline.
